Achieving Current Standards Using RF Turnstile Single Electron Transistors

Lead Research Organisation: University of Glasgow
Department Name: School of Engineering

Abstract

This research project aims to develop RF turnstile single electron transistors (SETs) for the
purpose of creating a current standard using the frequency - current relationship. Nanowire
technology has already been developed at Glasgow University, it has been proposed that scaling
the SET down to sub 10-nm nanowire and gate length, and by optimizing the device for RF
performance, that room temperature operational SET can be fabricated. This technology can
potentially be used as compact electrometers or magnetometers with the option of mass repro-
ducibility due to the top-down fabrication technique and using silicon technology that can be
integrated into the devices used today.
