Development & Commercialisation of the world’s first technology enabling 100% of Post-Consumer recycled bottles (rPET), to be remanufactured into “as new”, PET Bottles.
Lead Participant:
ENVIROPET LTD
Abstract
The EU Statement on circular economy targets requires 25% of post-consumer Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (rPET) in all new PET bottles from 2025, and 30% from 2030 onwards. Currently PET Bottle manufactures struggle with the introduction of rPET back into their incoming raw material stream because of variation in rPET feedstock reducing the mechanical and optical properties of the produced bottles.
ENVIROPET are developing a ground breaking technology PET-Yield which will not only enable 30% rPET addition but will also enable the addition of up to 20% washed and unprocessed PET flake without losing the mechanical and optical properties of the PET bottles.
PET-Yield will enable plastic bottle manufactures (envisaged customers) to
* save £6million pa per plant in raw materials
* fast track their compliance with the UK's national and Global targets of sustainable manufacturing by reducing CO2 emissions by at least 20% per PET bottle plant
* For the first time introduce Closed Loop Recycling (product to product) practices in the PET bottle industry
