Continual Professional Development - refocusing talent into the PEMD sector

Abstract

The transition to low/zero-emission transport technologies will have a significant impact on both the oil/gas and automotive sectors, with many people finding that they do not have the understanding or awareness of what is involved in low-carbon transport to be able to easily make the transition into new roles as their existing roles become redundant. At the same time, the low-carbon transport industry is dangerously short of experienced workers especially those in the PEMD sector, which if left un-tackled will impact upon the UK's competitiveness.

This project, through the provision of accredited Continual Professional Development (CPD) training on low carbon transport technologies, combined with the publication of an associated handbook, is the first step in meeting this need.

There is currently no other course like this available in the industry. The key innovation is the hybrid (live and learning at your own pace) delivery model for organisations that are looking to upskill their workforce in the PEMD low carbon transport sector, at it enables in-house training with large staff cohorts. This enables learners to engage with each other, which further improves the learning experience and provides the opportunity for the training to impact the company's culture. This better supports the business in making the transition to a new business area, rather than just providing the upskilling of individuals.

The project will develop the material over weeks 1-9\. During weeks 10-11 we will run the course as a trial within one organisation, gather feedback and carry out any necessary updates to the course material. We will also submit the course to the CPD accreditation process to ensure that learners receive formal recognition for completing the course. The final two weeks will then be used to disseminate the results of the course to other organisations across the UK to build interest in future course runs.

The course will be developed and delivered by Cenex, a leading research technology organisation and has been working on low carbon transport innovation since 2005\. As an independent, not-for-profit RTO, our mission is to support the transition of governments and organisations towards a net-zero future. We are also a CPD accredited training body, and alongside our research activities we have over 15-years experience providing training on low carbon transport technologies. This course will build upon our experience of developing an online low carbon transport course for the FutureLearn platform.
