Commercial Vehicle E-axle on-shoring of pilot production and preparation for scale-up

Lead Participant: SAIETTA GROUP LIMITED

Abstract

Following an unprecedented period of growth since listing on the London Stock Exchange's AIM market in July 2021, Saietta Group Plc continues to invest significantly into developing their modular portfolio of e-mobility solutions, complimenting successful lightweight vehicle axial-flux technology (AFT) products with innovative heavy-duty commercial vehicle e-drive solutions based on radial-flux technology (RFT), following the acquisition of e-Traction in November 2021.

Alongside developing routes to volume sales and manufacture for lightweight vehicle AFT products, the Group is also focused on rapidly bringing commercial vehicle RFT e-drive solutions to market -- without compromises to the levels of quality and robustness demanded by Saietta's automotive customers. Market growth and demand is high, with recent global events seeing customers place increased value on supply chain resilience and reliability.

Supported by the ATF, this project will onshore commercial vehicle e-drive production and supply chain to the UK from the EU and China, investing in people, process and equipment in Saietta's newly acquired manufacturing facility in Sunderland and building a pilot production line capable of delivering up to 1,000 high quality heavy-duty e-drive solutions per year, prior to full volume scale-up.

With applicability to OEM line fit; bespoke build; or retro-fit applications, existing high confidence in the e-drive design needs to be matched by assurance in the production processes and equipment and, importantly, the supply chain. This pilot production project will ensure that the integrity of the manufacturing process matches that of the core product design, positioning Saietta Sunderland as a globally significant player in commercial vehicle e-drive production and establishing ever stronger ties with UK PEMD supply chain.
