National Centre of Excellence in Gas Turbine Combustion Aerodynamics (NCCAT)

Lead Participant: LOUGHBOROUGH UNIVERSITY

Abstract

A national Centre of Excellence in Combustion Aerodynamics will be established at Loughborough University.
Within the Centre University researchers will work together with industrial engineers from partners such as
Rolls-Royce to develop the next generation of future, low emission, aerospace gas turbine combustion systems.
Research undertaken within the Centre will help develop step changes in technology that will be transferred
into commercial combustion systems for use in ‘leaner and greener’ aircraft engines that power both civil and
military aircraft. The Centre will also be instrumental in the training of future scientists and engineers capable of
developing and delivering this technology. The development will help support the UK and enable it to successfully
compete within the future aerospace market and thereby benefit the UK economy.
