Alumina as Sapphire Replacement for Extreme Environment Photonic Sensors (ASREEPS)
Lead Participant:
OXSENSIS LIMITED
Abstract
Oxsensis has developed high temperature optical pressure sensors using single crystal sapphire. ASREEPS aims to expand the operating envelope of optical sensors by identifying a volume manufacturing process in a low cost ceramic as a replacement for sapphire. A successful completion of ASREEPS will allow for use of low cost ceramic as the build material for critical structural sensor elements. By reducing the manufacturing cost of harsh environment optical sensors ASREEPS can grow the market into lower cost applications such as automotive engine sensors.
