Demonstrating the feasibility of autonomous sensors for biomanufacturing
Lead Participant:
SHARP LABORATORIES OF EUROPE, LTD.
Abstract
This project will demonstrate the feasibility of combining an innovative low-energy light harvesting technology with an emerging sensor platform to deliver ground breaking solutions that can be developed into innovative products in many diverse application areas. The project, which is a collaboration between Sharp Laboratories of Europe and Highland Biosciences, will focus on one specific application: biomass sensing in disposable bioreactors used in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. The disposable bioreactor space is growing rapidly, though the lack of suitable low-cost, autonomous sensor systems is slowing growth into the larger bioreactor systems used manufacturing (1000L and above). By combining the sensor and low energy harvesting technologies from both partners, this project will bring much needed innovation and create break-through products.
