Distributed Integrated Care Services and Systems

Lead Participant: CO-OPERATIVE GROUP LIMITED

Abstract

Background:
The Assisted Living Innovation Platform (ALIP) iCARE project involves a partnership with the principal objective to design, test and operate technology to help people with care requirements to live independently in their own homes, using technology to monitor their health and raise alarm if needed.
The project will be evaluated from a technical and user perspective in a 5 home trial, where volunteers will have their homes equipped with the assisted-living devices, such as personal alarms, safety equipment and a range of sensors. The integrated care (iCARE) system will offer support both within a smart home environment and outside the home via a small wearable mobile telecare unit providing mobility support (a key part of independence for older and disadvantaged people) to the care recipients. Such a platform will also enable other providers to deliver further added value services to care recipients (e.g. security and domestic energy management).
Objectives:
• Devise an open software framework to support integration and interoperability in the delivery of integrated care services
• Develop the associated processes, mechanisms, middleware tools/platforms and essential support services for building the “open” iCARE system
• Devise a holistic care environment that facilitates support both within a smart home environment and outside the home,
• Devise working prototypes, services and systems to demonstrate the technology and innovative care service concepts of iCARE in a small scale validation trial.
Benefits:
•User centric assisted living solutions created with end-user engagement throughout the project
•Emphasis on providing technology solutions to assist independence, not dictating how to live independently
• Increasing choice and accessibility by enabling ‘mix and match’ technology capability
• Delivering a cost effective solution to make assisted living technology available to a wider market
