Real time positioning, communication, mapping and distribution of a remote object or person location

Lead Participant: INSTANTVIEW LTD

Abstract

Instantview has a concept, Locator, which will provide real time positioning, communication,
mapping and distribution of a remote object or person location. The GSA forecast that by
2015, revenues for EGNOS-based mapping devices are expected to exceed €100mln. Locator
appears to be positioned in an uncontested space within the mapping / GIS market.
Locator uses augmented GNSS (EGNOS) to position the user within one metre. The location
of the remote object or person is calculated knowing the bearing, tilt and distance from the
Locator unit to the item being targeted; the device requires an accurate 3D compass. The
location of the remote item, along with an image of the object / person, is pushed to a server
for mapping and may be forwarded onto other colleagues in the field. Locator is light,
portable and doesn’t require a skilled operator.
The proposed project will run from December 2012 to August 2013 using Prince2 project
management principles. The components of Locator appear to be available and used in a
number of alternative devices. The challenge is to package these in a compact housing and
bring the device to market for a reasonable cost.
The proof of market activity will identify market segments, future demand, potential pricing
and ‘unknown’ customer preferences, needs and concerns. Locator’s product, features and
benefits will be validated with early adopters and other potential customers to identify the
minimum viable product for prototyping and initial sales. Competitors will be identified and
evaluated, as will potential channels to market and partners so that Locator may be positioned
effectively.
