Self adhesive semiconductor devices

Lead Participant: NOVALIA LIMITED

Abstract

Imagine a world where pictures, labels, posters, packaging can come alive through sound,
visual display, and illumination. Image also being able to interact with these objects though
touch and speech. Novalia produces and pioneers interactive printed media, that integrates
electronic components to mass produced printed materials through conductive ink technology.
This project will develop the next step of integrating bare dies electronic components with
printed media. This step will be a radical new development for the electronics industry,
allowing significant cost reduction, advantages in weight and flexibility, and the opening host
of new applications areas. The small size of bare dies allows significant reduction in size and
form of the manufactured components. These dies may also be easily integrated into, existing,
standard print and converting processes to allow rapid production. In order to realise the
potential of this approach on a industrial scale, the project will utilise the state-of-the-art
facilities at the Printed Electronics Technology Centre(PETEC)-the UK's national printed
electronic centre. Novalia has strong existing relationships with PETEC and understands the
capability of the prototyping and pilot scale production facilities and how these translate
directly to mass manufacture lines.
