Industrial Microwave Systems Ltd - Development of an advanced solid state microwave power supply in combination with a novel output antenna for use in standard industrial, domestic and novel microwave ovens and applications

Abstract

Since its commercial introduction in 1947, the magnetron has been the dominant microwave
generation technology for industrial & domestic heating applications. Problems with the
magnetron result in high periodic costs, product variability and disruption for industrial users.
Due to recent developments in communications technology, high power transistors are now
becoming readily available with performance and at prices that make them commercially
viable for microwave heating applicatons. Industrial Microwave Systems (IMS), an
established UK manufacturer that exports internationally, proposes a 24 month project to
develop two novel packaging solutions to exploit solid state microwave transistors, benefiting
a broad range of industrial process heating applications.
