Abstract
Ocean Power Technologies’ project proposes to validate the Autonomous PowerBuoy® (APB-350) as a reliable, cost effective power and control platform for its use in a number of applications in the offshore O&G industry. The PowerBuoy can reduce CO2 emissions and costs for operators.
The APB harvests wave energy to power remote, in-ocean sensors and communications equipment. Harvested energy is stored on-board (to ‘ride through’ periods of calm seas) and distributed to its payload. At Northern European latitudes, this is a more reliable way of delivering power to marine equipment than other renewable energy technologies.
