Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Description We sought to determine whether the bacterial cell cycle regulator, GpsB, was a potential target for novel antibiotic drug discovery. Though the assays that were used were successfully conducted, we were unable during the course of the award to identify novel chemical scaffolds that could lead to new antibiotics.
Exploitation Route We subsequently used the x-chem facility at diamond to extend the screening capacity of GpsB, but despite obtaining over a dozen potential binding sites of interest none of the compounds, from a screen of over 600, were effective in a competition assay.
