UK Consortium on Turbulent Reacting Flows (UKCTRF)

Lead Research Organisation: University of Manchester
Department Name: Mechanical Aerospace and Civil Eng

Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Description Established stability guidelines for the numerical methods used in high fidelity computational combustion.
Provided best practice guidelines for the accurate simulation of premixed flame structures
Developed a line of premixed turbulent combustion models based on higher moment quantities - particularly using the so-called flame turbulence interaction term. Introduced denoising algorithms from mesoscale methods to provide smooth estimates for (difficult to obtain) high order turbulent transport moments.
Exploitation Route The consortium aims to provide fundamental understanding and computation of reacting flows. The turbulence models will be of direct relevence to industrial end users; the DNS will be interest to physicists, engineers, fluid dynamicists and chemists.
