Abstract
This study will investigate how the societal changes in the nineteenth century dramatically altered the ecclesiastical landscape and its architecture in Ulster (Ireland's northern province). Adopting a landscape methodology, and utilising RCAHM Level 3 building surveys and GIS analysis, sites in Antrim and Fermanagh will be investigated to determine how they were connected to their surrounding physical environments and how their architectural design evolved over the century. The study will develop on work already published by the author (Taylor 2021; Taylor 2022), with the results compared against studies from Britain (eg: Bremner 2013) and the USA (Smith 2006; Taylor 2022).
