Demonstration of Vault IoT for rail

Lead Participant: COMPLETE CYBER LIMITED

Abstract

Cyber security is of huge importance but has long been neglected in the rail industry. The use of operational technology which was often not originally designed to connect to a network is challenging, and many rail companies do not have reliable asset lists or status updates.

Existing solutions rely on the use of outsourced contractors. This is an expensive process usually done once per year, hindering the ongoing assessment and maintenance of cyber security. This causes unplanned delays, reducing reliability, efficiency and customer satisfaction.

In this project, Complete Cyber will further develop Vault IoT, a handheld device designed to be used by rail companies to monitor cyber security. With remote connection, 4G connectivity and cloud access, Vault will allow quick and reliable asset detection and trend analysis, comprehensive reporting, vulnerability discovery, and security detection.

On-site testing with Porterbrook, BCIMO and Network Rail will ensure that Vault IoT is user friendly, intuitive and meets the needs of the consumer. Evaluation work, comparing the tool to existing solutions, will assess cost and time benefits as well as collecting user feedback.

Complete Cyber will also be developing a range of complimentary products in the Vault range to extend further benefits to the Rail industry in reducing Cyber risks and supporting issues associated with reliability.
