Abstract
In pursuit of a ballet career at 14 years old, Naomi injured her knee. After three years and eight different specialists, her injury was finally diagnosed. At this time she was told she would never be able to dance again. With her frustration of injury and passion for engineering, Naomi decided to be the change she knew this industry needed and created Movetru. At Movetru, we are dedicated to helping athletes reach their full potential through our cutting-edge wearable technology. Our product allows athletes to customise their performance tracking, providing them with the insights and data they need to improve their game.
Since 2022, Movetru has developed biomechanical algorithms which have been implemented into the Movetru app. A fully operational system has been developed incorporating a wearable garment and a mobile app equipped with data processing features such as joint angles, ground reaction forces, training load, and power. With a focus on Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries, these algorithms can quantify risk based on an individual's movement pattern. Movetru has also been able to transition from a wired to a wireless system. Product trials have been completed with over 85 participants at the Movetru Innovation Lab. Movetru has also grown a strong team with successful hires of an app developer, sports scientist, and textile specialist. Key partnerships have been secured with Antrim Camogie, Dynamis Performance, and Blackburn Rovers.
This project proposes a collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University to validate Movetru's product, and expand the service offering. This validation is a vital step in getting Movetru ready for market. Trials will also take place at a local level to gain product feedback and ensure usability. Movetru's target market is suffering with a high rate of delayed diagnoses in sports-related injuries. Preventable injuries are all too common within the elite sporting world, as well as at a grassroots level. These injuries lead to an increased risk of obesity and early onset osteoarthritis. Movetru is dedicated to counteracting this issue, by preventing injuries and speeding up rehabilitation time for all. With a commitment to athletes in Northern Ireland, Movetru wishes to improve local athlete's quality of life and enhance performance, all while boosting the local economy. In doing this, Movetru will reduce healthcare costs, and emphasise sports participation in Northern Ireland.
