Marine Data Exchange Enhancement Project (MDEEP)
Lead Participant:
RAD PROPULSION LTD
Abstract
This Marine Data Exchange Enhancement Project (MDEEP) sets out to better understand the landscape of automotive vehicle to everything (V2X) standards and best practices with a view to applying them into the marine domain. The optimisation of data exchange in the emerging low emission vessel industry offers the potential to accelerate uptake, reduce emissions and provide a superior experience for commercial and recreational end-users.
The project will study existing automotive V2X data exchange solutions and identify how they can be adopted in the marine industry, what gaps will need to be addressed and look to identify possible enhancements.
A consortium representing an industry cross section has been formed to complete the work scope. This includes RAD Propulsion, a supplier of electric drive and battery technologies to the zero-emission vessel market, Cisco a world leading international hardware/software technology company specialising in routing and switching, as well as adjacent advanced technologies. Urban Truant who brings real world use cases and experience and finally Stehr Consulting who will provide specialist support with regard to regulatory compliance. The lead organisations will host a series of workshops and interviews to engage with a wide swath of the zero-emission vessel industry and identify real actions that can drive adoption and optimisation of electric vessels.
The vessels and systems being designed and delivered now will need to be in operation for decades to come. This project is important in progressing the understanding and application of standards and knowledge in data exchange now to help equipment designers and users progress rapidly. This is important if the UK, the maritime industry and the planet are to achieve CO2 reduction goals.
