RESTORE Sustainable Remanufacturing solution with increased automation and recycled content in laser and plasmabased process.

Lead Participant: INTELLEGENS LIMITED

Abstract

In the pursuit of a Circular Economy, RESTORE seeks to revolutionize remanufacturing practices by introducing sustainable processes, materials, and digital tools. The project addresses the challenges of remanufacturing implementation by developing advanced cladding technologies, zero-waste materials, and a comprehensive digital platform.

On the process front, RESTORE aims to enhance deposition rates for large-scale applications through a novel hybrid process combining laser direct energy deposition (DED) and plasma transfer arc (PTA). Additionally, RESTORE will develop wire feedstock with recycled content and a wire feeding system integrated with an auxiliary feeding system to directly transfer machining swarf or unused powder into the melt pool.
In the realm of materials, RESTORE focuses on producing wire feedstock with recycled content, paving the way for eco-friendly and resource-efficient remanufacturing practices. Furthermore, the project will develop a decision support framework to guide remanufacturing decisions based on data-driven insights.

To enhance the digitization of remanufacturing, RESTORE will develop the RESTORE platform, a suite of digital technologies and tools. These include process automation tools to streamline remanufacturing processes, recipe books and simulation tools for product and process optimization, a decision support framework, an ecoDESIGN framework, a blockchain-enabled digital product passport, a digital marketplace, business model templates, and collaborative spaces for stakeholders to connect and share data.

RESTORE's comprehensive approach to sustainable remanufacturing will transform the industrial landscape by promoting resource efficiency, reducing waste, and creating a more circular economy. The project's innovative technologies and digital tools will empower remanufacturers and industry leaders to adopt sustainable practices and contribute to a more sustainable future.

RESTORE is a project with the overarching goal of showcasing a portfolio of sustainable repair and remanufacturing processes, specifically leveraging laser and plasma arc technologies. This initiative also emphasizes the integration of increased autonomy in damage detection, inspection, and process control, along with the use of recycled materials as feedstock consumables to drive advancements in the functionality of remanufacturing industrial components. The ultimate aim is to achieve full industrial circularity within the project scope.
