The Plant Cell Research Centre

Abstract
By exploiting advances in single cell genomics, epigenetics and engineering biology, the Plant Cell Research Centre (PCRC) aims to elucidate the mechanisms that control plant cell totipotency and somatic embryogenesis. This knowledge will be used to develop two open-access technologies: a species- and genotype-independent plant cell regeneration technology and a genetically stable single plant cell technology to accelerate the application of engineering biology for crop improvement and plant biotechnology. DSIT's investment in the PCRC will create a focused research organisation with a mission to provide open-source tools to academic researchers, enabling technology for plant cell and tissue regeneration, stable single plant cell systems for fermentation and GE services to academic, NGO, charitable and commercial organisations.
