Secure Integrated Network Communications for Broadband and ATM Connectivity

Lead Participant: THALES UK LIMITED

Abstract

The Secure Integrated Network Communications for Broadband and ATM Connectivity (SINCBAC) project is intended to accelerate the UK offering to the civil aircraft industry for a SESAR-era ATM-capable comms system. Passenger aircraft communications are undergoing a revolution and new aviation operating regimes are demanding orders of magnitude increases of data throughput for future flight decks, passenger cabins, and aircraft system safety & health reporting. Rather than proliferate the already large number of components in a communication system, the technology challenge is therefore to contain all network traffic on an aircraft into a unified system, whilst still maintaining complete segration between separate traffic domains. SINCBAC research will derisk a certifiable resiliant and secure network fabric, which will support network traffic of all classifications from safety of flight comms. to high speed broadband, with priority being given to safety services.
