A general-purpose configuration management system for highly configurable systems validated in automated logistics.

Abstract

Omniscient is collaborating with Oxford University's Mobile Robotics Group (MRG) to develop a groundbreaking, sophisticated, general-purpose configuration management platform that will revolutionise the development and exploitation of Highly Configurable Systems (HCS).

HCS is a broad term covering any system, whether digital, physical or both, that is designed to serve a wide range of use cases through its configurability. Artificial intelligence, digital twins, and autonomous systems are just a few examples of where the need for high configurability leads to complex systems of configuration data. Born from the competitive world of Formula 1(r), Omniscient's platform is designed to solve the growing need for a dedicated platform for managing complex configurations. Through substantial innovation over and above the state-of-the-art, the platform leverages semantic understanding of configuration to minimise custom code and manual toil in the development and maintenance of HCS.

We will demonstrate this new technology on the pioneering robotic initiative from MRG -- Robotic Inversion (RI) -- that aims to revolutionise the field by exploiting recent telecommunication and IoT advances to remove all onboard sensing and computing from mobile. By empowering an evolutionary leap in MRG's robotics systems, Omniscient's platform promises to accelerate development throughout the product lifecycle. This project is not just a theoretical concept, but a practical endeavour that will undergo rigorous validation in real-world logistics through MRG's existing partnership with logistics companies.

This project will be a significant step towards market readiness and commercialisation of MRG's innovative robotics research. Furthermore, it will demonstrate the ability of Omniscient's groundbreaking, industry-agnostic platform to have a significant impact on a number of markets. This will in turn help put the UK at the forefront of modern technology, boost productivity and deliver substantial value to the UK economy.
