Abstract
The extent to which migration shaped the history of Europe in the First millennium AD and the forms this migratory activity took have become highly contentious subjects among historians and archaeologists. This workshop series will attempt to work past the impasse by bringing together all interested parties and reconsidering old problem areas such as the Fall of the Roman Empire, the slavicisation of Europe, and the Vikings, in the light of new insights, data sets, and methodologies, and by opening up the early medieval debate to the scrutiny of social scientists with a broader interest in migratory phenomena
