Transport properties beyond linear response function

Abstract

Over the past several years, gauge/gravity duality has been applied to problems of interest in condensed matter physics (CMP) and fluid dynamics (FD), with surprising results. By now, gravitational duals of many CMP and FD phenomena have been found, and the gravitational solutions have been used to gain new insight into strongly correlated matter. Of particular interest to both CMP and FD, are transport properties of materials, such as electric conductivity and shear viscosity. While there are standard quantum field theory methods to compute these within linear response function and at weak coupling, or in a fluid-like expansion, there are no methods to compute these in general. Holography offers a window of opportunity to compute these transport properties in full generality. The aim to this project is to develop novel holographic methods to compute transport coefficients beyond the fluid-like or linear response expansions.
