Atomic force microscopy of biofilm adhesion

Lead Research Organisation: University of Sheffield
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

The adhesion of bacteria to different surfaces affects a variety of different industrial problems. Here the adhesion of different bacteria to surfaces will be determined by atomic force microscopy. The project is directed at an understanding of the adhesion of bacteria and biofilm formation under different environments. Knowledge of bacterial adhesion will be applied to improve environments whereby the formation of biofilms can be better controlled.
