Field theory dualities in 2+1 dimensions

Lead Research Organisation: Swansea University
Department Name: College of Science

Abstract

Quantum field theories in 2+1 dimensions exhibit rich phenomena which
have consequences for several physical systems, including domain wall
dynamics of 4d Yang-Mills theories, the Quantum Hall Effect and High-T
superconductivity, to name a few. The aim of this project is to make
precise recently proposed dualities between fermionic particles and
vortices in Abelian Chern-Simons matter theories using previously
developed methods for bosonizing fermions in 2+1 dimensions. Various
aspects of the dualities will be tested by computing correlation
functions in pairs of dual theories which lie within the duality web
implied by particle-vortex duality in 2+1 dimensions.
