Investigations into the Reactivity of 2,5-Diaryl Tetrazoles and its applications within Chemical Biology and Synthetic Methodology

Lead Research Organisation: University of Strathclyde
Department Name: Pure and Applied Chemistry

Abstract

2,5-diaryl tetrazoles decompose upon exposure to UV-B light to form a highly reactive species known as a nitrile imine. It is our view that this species is of enormous potential for applications in both chemical biology and organic synthesis, and yet remains critically underexplored. The aim of this project is to further explore the utility of this species and any applications it may find within the fields mentioned above.
