Topological Plasmonics in 2D superlattices

Lead Research Organisation: University of Manchester
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

This Thesis will study the propagation of plasmons, the collective oscillations of electrons in a material, in superlattices realized in 2D systems by periodic modulation of material parameters and external fields. In particular, a description of the topological properties acquired by these collective modes will be developed. This will be exploited to localize plasmons at interfaces between superlattices with different topological characters, or at their corners. Applications to lasing and sensing will be briefly discussed.
