Abstract

Lauren wishes to conduct a '+3' studentship. She is currently undertaking a Masters degree which is highly research based, and has accumulated a number of research experiences; including a volunteer position as a research assistant, as well as a summer internship position. She is willing to attend selected modules of the MSc Health Data Science, to ensure the conversion from the College of Human and Health Sciences to the School of Medicine runs as smoothly as possible, such as the Introductory Analysis of Linked Health Data as well as Health Data Modelling.
At the end of her doctorate, Lauren will have an ability to understand and use a range of research techniques, including those required to manipulate and analyse "big data". As part of her masters training she already has a good grounding in research methods, design, and analysis, which will be honed as part of her training while she converts to using large routinely collected datasets. Her chosen research topic is topical and will have a strong component to link beyond academic through public and patient involvement. We are confident that Lauren has the aptitude to engage with partners in different disciplines within the ADRC-Wales and the potential to become a research leader to have an impact on how patient characteristics affect treatment.

Results and Impact This was an excellent event whereby researchers talk to school classes online about science and their research. This engages school-aged children and young people with science and answers the questions they are interested in. We had some fantastic discussions about my research and some students said they would like to be a scientist!
