Expansion of the Guerbet Reaction Towards Group 7 Metal Catalysts and Triglyceride Substrates

Lead Research Organisation: Cardiff University
Department Name: Chemistry

Abstract

The project will explore (i) the selective trimerization and tetramerization of alpha-olefins and (ii) the chain growth of C4+ alcohols using so-called Guerbert or hydrogen-borrowing chemistry. The programme will be discovery orientated and will make use of ligand libraries used in other BP funded projects in the Wass group for the selective coupling of ethanol, ethanol/methanol and C1 units to alcohols and diols.
