Development of high-performance nonlinear optical materials

Lead Research Organisation: University of Southampton
Department Name: Optoelectronics Research Ctr (closed)

Abstract

This PhD CASE studentship is sponsored by Covesion Ltd and based on the development of new manufacturing processes and applications of nonlinear optical crystals, a technology used to change the colour of lasers. This project will leverage the world-class cleanroom facilities at the University of Southampton and a new and unique suite of mechanical machining (dicing, milling, grinding) equipment to develop next-generation materials for wavelength conversion. Importantly, this research is intended to improve our scientific understanding of how nonlinear optical materials can be manipulated and processed to generate more efficient and reproducible devices.
