Transformation North West

Department Name: Lancaster Inst for the Contemporary Arts

Abstract

My interests lie in how technologies can catalyse community engagement, community resilience, meaningful participation and social agency. Whether opening a public space to new uses; informing and developing conversations within a traditional industry; or enabling individuals to work through personal issues. My PhD will explore the creative space between local government and community, creative media, and academia.

I am particularly keen to study at Lancaster as I am interested in creating and working on projects for town and rural communities that are often less focused on than communities within larger metropolises. Through my PhD I will combine my creative media skills and community project involvement with academia. Looking at the theme transformative digital technologies, with a particular focus on more rural community groups, I hope to better our understanding of how technologies can catalyse community engagement, community resilience, meaningful participation and social agency. Whether opening a public space to new uses; informing and developing conversations within a traditional industry; or enabling individuals to work through personal issues. My PhD will explore the creative space between local government and community, creative media, and academia.

Through my practice I have engaged in research with organisations in the public sector, creative industries and local governments. It with this diverse experience that I can contribute to the PhD program at ImaginationLancaster.
