Abstract

This dissertation is designed to establish the nature of audience thinking at the Science Museum. When and how did this concept emerge to play its now significant role in executing the Museum's mission as a public institution (in participating in the production of public cultures of science in Britain). In brief one should outline the correspondence between changing conceptions of audiences and changing conceptions of the Science Museum's raison d'etre.
