Searching for dark matter production in Higgs boson decays at CMS

Abstract

The nature of dark matter (DM) is one of the most pressing and unresolved questions in elementary particle physics. An attractive explanation for dark matter is a new, massive elementary particle with weak couplings to Standard Model (SM) particles. If this is the case it is reasonable to assume that the Higgs boson, which couples to mass, could decay to a pair of DM particles in an "invisible decay". The aim of this project is to search for invisible Higgs decays in the full LHC Run-II dataset collected by CMS and preparing searches for LHC Run-III. In order to maximise sensitivity to to invisible Higgs decays this project aims to carry out an analysis that covers all SM Higgs production processes with a consistent systematic treatment of all channels.
