Abstract

A critical analysis of Employee Engagement. Commonly used engagement tools often result in quantitative data that does little to explain the causation or reasoning behind such results. Drawing on a storytelling methodology, it adopts a plurivocal position to investigate and further our understanding of how narrative is being shaped and used in organisation and management literature. It further explores the potential for story-telling as a two-way communication between employees and employers, specifically with regard to narratives of personal experience and applying this to the context of engagement at work. It considers how issues of trust, power and control are played out in the engagement discourse.
