Integration of SDN and NFV in 5G to support access traffic splitting, switching and steering

Lead Research Organisation: King's College London
Department Name: Informatics

Abstract

Using OpenAirInterface simulation tool evaluate how each split is feasible by identifying the impact that layer/functional split have on overall system and by analysing the latency and jitter of the fronthaul. Then compare the results of each split using traffics of 5G services.

Create a system model to investigate if reliability and latency of packet-based fronthauling can be improved by means of multi-path diversity and erasure coding of the fronthaul packets.

Define the latency bounds of packet-based fronthaul for Cloud-RAN with functionality split.

Use different fronthaul type for example PON.

Identify how the split is scalable and how the system behaves in extreme scenarios.
