Creep-Ageforming of AA2139 With Prior Deformation

Lead Research Organisation: University of Manchester
Department Name: Materials

Abstract

The aim of this project is to understand the microstructural and mechanical behaviour of a new novel aluminium alloy, during creep-ageforming, of components for aerospace applications. This includes understanding the influence of pre-deformation on the shape and spring back, as well as capturing the material rheological response in a model that can be implemented in an FEM forming code.

This project will develop accurate experimental methods to measure the materials creep relaxation behavior while studying the alloys precipitation kinetics, by TEM, DSC etc. and any coupled interactions that occur. This information will be used to model and validate the creep relaxation response and microstructure development.
