Improved ATLAS Higgs to bb Measurements and Inner Tracker Upgrade Thermal Studies

Lead Research Organisation: Queen Mary University of London
Department Name: Physics

Abstract

This project will target improvements to the ATLAS Higgs to bb analysis, taking advantage of the final Run 2 objects and calibrations and targeting a paper in 2022. Measurements will be made of the VH production mode and investigate multiple kinematic regions, using differential unfolding in transverse momentum and/or the Simplified Template Cross Section framework. As this is the "legacy" Run 2 analysis special attention will be paid to synchronising measurement definitions between production modes and and with the Higgs to cc decay mode, in order to obtain the best possible final measurements for LHC Run 2. The project will also contribute to the ATLAS Inner Tracker upgrade for the High Luminosity LHC, by making measurements and simulations of the thermal properties of staves upon which strip tracker modules are mounted, in order to ensure performance targets are met for the temperature of the detector.
