3D printable electroactive materials for organic electrochemistry

Lead Research Organisation: University of Bristol
Department Name: Chemistry

Abstract

This research will address the problems associated with electrochemical reactors at each stage of reaction development: discovery, optimisation, dissemination and reproducibility: Systems will be developed that are not currently available in the field of electro-synthesis and exploit these systems for the discovery and development of a number of synthetic transformations. The fundamental, measurable objectives are to:

a) Invent a screening system for synthetic organic electrochemical reactions

b) Solve the reproducibility problem by assessing the influence of reactor-parameters on the output of different electro-synthetic reactions

c) Develop optimisation tools, materials, print-procedures and innovative designs for Super-Cells: the next generation of reactors for organic electrochemistry

Despite a focus on small-scale use, the reactor designs and reproducibility studies from this project will directly feed into scale-up research and facilitate adoption of electrochemistry in industry and academia.
