The normalisation of adolescent digital dating abuse? Does the Welsh 'healthy relationships' education curriculum meet learner needs?

Lead Research Organisation: Cardiff University
Department Name: Sch of Social Sciences

Abstract

The research project aims to explore the way digital spaces become sites of abusive behaviours in adolescent relationships, and in this regard identify the extent to which the 'healthy relationships' education represents an effective intervention to prevent such behaviours. A mixed methods approach is adopted, which makes use of quantitative methods to collect data on the extent of abuse in digital spaces and qualitative research on the experience of such behaviours. The research proposes a collaborative approach, with the participants (aged 16-24) embedded in the planning, implementation and dissemination of the research. Impact is aimed at recommendations for changes to educational policy in Wales with regard to the healthy relationships curriculum.
