Abstract

Singlet fission is a spin conserving process in which a singlet exciton splits into a pair of triplet excitons. If these triplets can be extracted, this process offers the possibility of greatly reducing thermalisation losses in solar cells. This project will study the spin interactions within pairs of triplets, using techniques including Electron Spin Resonance (ESR). The aim is to optimise singlet fission by understanding the underlying mechanisms of triplet formation and separation during and after the singlet fission process.
