Multiplexed Metal Enhanced Fluorescence for Early Diagnostic Biosensing

Abstract

Fluorescence is common biosensing and cell imaging technique. Through the conjugation of fluorophores to metallic nanostructures, it is possible to increase the fluorescent signal observed through a phenomenon known as metal enhanced fluorescence. For biosensing applications, this is important in allowing for lower concentrations of biomarkers to be detected, which can ultimately lead to earlier disease diagnosis. This project is looking at the development of nano metallic biosensing platforms for ultrasensitive diagnostics. There is a focus on their multiplex capabilities, which allows for the simultaneous quantification of multiple biomarkers.
