Next generation oblique plane microscopy

Lead Research Organisation: Imperial College London
Department Name: Physics

Abstract

This project will develop the next generation of oblique plane microscope technology to increase the imaging speed, spatial resolution and collection efficiency compared to the existing system. The new system will be applied to study a range of biological samples including calcium dynamics in isolated cardiomyocytes in 3D at video rate with collaborators at the National Heart and Lung Institute (Ken MacLeod, Sian Harding, Julia Gorelik), including in heart failure, and to study how cancer cells explore different shapes in 3D over time as a function of gene knock-down with collaborators at the Institute of Cancer Research (Chris Bakal).
