A workplace- and school-based digital intervention for parents of children with mental health problems

Abstract
In collaboration with the School Space Study and the Midlands Engine Mental Health and Productivity Pilot, the aim of this PhD will be to develop and pilot an on-line resource and possibly also a smart-phone digital app to support parents and carers and enhance their understanding of adolescent mental health, treatment pathways and relevant evidence-based interventions.
The first phase of the project (months 1 to 5) would consist of conducting a systematic review of research that has sought to understand the needs of parents and the role they play in facilitating mental health outcomes. A scoping review of any digital interventions aimed at providing parents with information and support on child mental health and wellbeing will also be conducted.
The second phase (months 6 to 12) would comprise a survey of multi-stake holder perspectives (service users, parents, employees, teachers and mental health providers) to gain a comprehensive depiction on what would be most useful in a resource to maximise support for children with poor mental health.
Based on the outcomes of the systematic review and survey, the third phase (months 13 to 20) would be to design a user-centred digital resource and launch the digital resource in the Midlands Engine and SchoolSpace partner organisations as a randomised controlled trial.
