Innovative, CMOS-based sensor solutions for x-ray detection and imaging

Lead Research Organisation: University College London
Department Name: Medical Physics and Biomedical Eng

Abstract

This studentship is part of a newly formed collaboration between UCL and London-based sensor company ISDI. The aim is to create revolutionary solutions for x-ray detection and imaging based on advanced CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor) architectures coupled with cutting-edge scintillation technology. The resulting devices will be applied to a variety of high-end applications of x-ray imaging encompassing medical diagnostics, industrial inspections and security scans.
One key area of work is looking into stacking two or more cmos image sensors on top of each other and explore the posibilies of enriching image quality for various applications. Additional research work will be aimed at detector characterisation and use of the detectors in specific imaging applications.
