Neutrinoless Double-Beta Decay with LEGEND

Abstract
LEGEND is a new project which aims to search for neutrinoless double-beta decay with unprecedented sensitivity within the next few years. This PhD project aligns with the first formal involvement of the UK in the project. The student will learn about high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector technology at UCL and participate in the European detector characterisation effort, and will also participate in UCL's low-background screening campaign. The student will be subsequently participate in the LEGEND installation at the Gran Sasso Underground Laboratory, and the analysis of the first LEGEND data.
