Abstract
Year 1 DTP student. Detailed project description will be updated in Spring 2021.
This project aims to study the effect of aerosols on ship track formation. The aerosols that are created in the combustion of bunker fuel can create many small droplets once the turbulent plume emanating from the ship interacts with the cloud layer. This increases the local albedo of the cloud deck and as such can cause a strong climate forcing. The conditions under which the ship tracks form will be investigated, both via relatively simple parcel models and using direct numerical simulation.
