Smart Sensor Technology - Wearable electronics

Lead Research Organisation: University of Cambridge
Department Name: Engineering

Abstract

Smart sensors have been developed using different materials and in different form factors. Sensors embedded on e-fibres and e-textiles represent the next challenge to integrate smart functionalities on fabric and clothing in order to embed intelligent functions and personalised monitoring capabilities to the next wave of smart buildings and wearables. Current limitations include, for instance, integration of smart coatings of nanostructured materials, along with electronic and energy components in a fabric form factor and resilience of the smart fabric devices to washing cycles.

Aim:
Develop and characterise novel textile-based smart sensor technology.
Objectives and specific goals:
1. Characterise the current sensor platform in everyday environments 2. Analyse and interpret data collected from this study
3. Develop and fabricate novel sensor for monitoring another analyte
