Mechanisms of early synaptic dysfunction in Alzheimer's disease

Lead Research Organisation: King's College London
Department Name: Neuroscience

Abstract

Our working hypothesis is that changes in CYFIP2-dependent mRNA translation is a critical step inthe earlysynaptic dysfunction in AD. In this PhD project will investigate this hypothesis at multiple levels.
The aims are:
1)Study synaptic function and structure in hippocampal slices from CYFIP2 mutantsand 5xFAD mice.
2)Study of level and quality of protein synthesis in CYFIP2 mutantsand5XFAD mice.
3)Test for reversibility of observed effects and test for impact on behaviour.
