Camera Systems for Imaging of Gas Emissions

Lead Research Organisation: University of Glasgow
Department Name: School of Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

Leaking gas is invisible to the naked eye, yet such gases may be poisonous, corrosive or indeed drivers of climate change. By using quantum technologies for illumination and imaging we are making new types of camera that can visualise these gas emissions. We have already shown the imaging of methane gas as it leaks from pipes or similar infrastructure and are now looking to extend the range of gases we can image to include hydrogen, a possible clean alternative to hydrocarbons. We are working with M-squared lasers to develop demonstrator systems for various applications.
